So this Sunday was pretty much the sweetest day ever! So my day started pretty early. We had to be at El Puente at 7:30 AM. Now details are very important in this story so please forgive me if this starts to get a little bit long. I had to be at El Puente at that time because we were going on this walk for Young Life. Young Life is Wednesdays 7-9ish. It´s bible study/youth groups for pretty much anyone that wants to come. So we started this walk walking through a little bit of Granada. Then we walked along the lake for a little bit. Oh about 25 kids went and you have to be between the ages of 15 - 18 to be in Young Life. Ok so then we get in the country and it´s absolutely beautiful. A good way to picture it would be kind of like a swamp. There are all of these trees and vines, palm trees, pretty much every kind of plant life you think of when you think tropical. And the coolest thing was in some parts there was water on the ground and all of these things were just growing out of the water. I think we made 3 or 4 stops on the way to play a few games and then do a little bible studying. And we stopped in some of the collest places with the coolest surroundings. One of my favorite things on this walk was climbing in between barbed wire fence. I don´t know if i´ve mentioned this yet but there are a lot of farm animals everywhere in this country so as we were walking there were horses, cattle, birds, sheep, and goats. Also another little fun fact - these animals roam freely in the streets. But anyways we´ve made all these stops and now there´s a fork in the road. One way was paved and big and the other was small and rocky. Which path do you take? The easier or harder one. Well turns out the narrow rocky road was shorter. So once we reached a point we had to wait for them to catch up. Once they had caught up we continued down this rocky pathway and then began the upward climb which isn´t super long but still it´s uphill which means it sucked. Once we had reached the top there was the cross. I had been here once before with Joe on of my teammates but even seeing it with the knowledge of knowing what to expect didn´t take away any of it´s glory. From it you could see everything. We ate lunch and then had a little bit of worship. The worship was so cool Carlos was playing the guitar facing up and we were facing the world. It was so cool. So many of those kids are being convicted. It´s so awesome to see people just at that point where they are almost ready to break. So that´s part of the day. Now for part two. Ok we´re still on top of this mountain and its 2:30 and we have to be at church at 5:00. So we had to book it getting home. So we got home and it was about 3:50. So I quickly showered. And oh yeah for lunch I had a nectarine and for breakfast I had nothing. And at this point I am a mess. I couldn´t find my journal, purse, bible, water bottle, and I couldn´t decide what to wear. So I had a little time to have supper which was a small amount of jello which of course is super filling! But suprisingly I still wasn´t hungry. Another important fact in the day. Early in that day we had kind of got the impression that most people in the group were going to Resurrection. We have a choice of what church we go to on Sundays at night so Caleb, Joe, and JD three of my teammates hsow up at my house in a cab and they were like where is everyone at and i said I didn´t know everyone just kind of bailed. So church was amazing. We were all singing and dancing and then at the end of the service there were all these little wash cloths on the steps. We were all to get one. They were symbolic in the way that Jesus washes away all of our sins and makes us clean. The coolest part of the worship service was when we put them up in the air and swung them around. It looked like a Linn-Mar basketball game. We can so easily put our hands up in the air and swing a towel around for something that doesn´t really matter, but why do we have such a hard time putting our hands up in the air for someone that saved our lives? I heard a great analogy for that being here. What do you do when you get in trouble? What do you do when a cop approaches you? You put your hands in the air to surrender. Shouldn´t we be surrending to our God who gave us everything we have? Ok so we get out of church and my hunger overwhelms me. We at this point decided to walk home. We find a stand of banana leaf food. So we got some food and seriously its the most food I´ve ever gotten from these ladies. It was a huge piece of chicken, plantains, and salad, which really isn´t salad it looks more like coleslaw but doesn´t taste like it. So we had ordered it to go but it was just too much to carry and eat so me and JD got a table to eat and Joe and Caleb were sitting but they weren´t there. Then we heard our names being called and there was Joe and Caleb sititng with this guy whom had previously been asking for money. Then the boys went for it. Just evangelizing like crazy. JD who speaks spanish took over. This guy they were talking to was named Andy and his life was a mess. He was very poor, his wife and kid had left him, and the worst was that he said that the devil has all power over me and God won´t except him. Twice in this time Caleb was looking for a bible verse and instantly found it. The guy wanted us then to go to his house and pray over his family. Because he knew the devil was very there. So we walked to his house which was 3 blocks away and of course he had to live on the darkest street ever. The guys being a little worried about me going down it offered to stay with me but in my head I said a little prayer and the most calming feeling came over me and an amazing feeling of protection. Anyways we prayed over the guy´s house and him and by the end of the prayer we were all tearing up. At that point its about 9:10 and we have to be home by 9:30 and we´re not exactly close to home nor does anybody know where we´re at because church had gotten out at 7:00. So at this point we´re a little worried of what´s going to happen so we start to walk home at a pretty brisk pace. Then we´re a few blocks from home and we realize that we have about 7 minutes but another 10 minutes walk so what do we decide - RUN. So we approach my house and oh my it´s a miracle Tana our leader is not home. So then with three minutes to spare the boys grab their stuff and sprint home because they still need to be home by 9:30. Also as soon as they turned the corner, there was Tana and the people she was with. So as it turns out Tana wasn´t mad about what happened which was amazing. In those last few minutes of what was the last time we would see freedom you know God was in Heaven just laughing at us saying you´re going to be ok. So basically the lesson was obey God, and he´ll take care of you. Thank you all so much for your prayers. And have a good week.
